Autumn has arrived, school is in session, and poker is back in full swing, baby!
Several members of the Original Table Gangsters gathered back at the digital on an evening that was either rainy or blazing hot, depending on which coast you lived. While chaos mostly stayed at bay and the focus of most folks was on the Ravens and the Bills playing some great American football, a victor emerged: the esteemed Matt Vass!
Before announcing the winners, we must first acknowledge the losers. After a notably poor start in the Vampire League that will go down in the history books, Scott's table play had whatever the opposite of the luck of the Irish of the Irish is (Tom's Cruise's accent in Far and Away?). Despite a few wins and ties, he was ultimately pummeled and, although he didn't finish last, he should still feel bad about his performance.
Conversely, Matt Vass had an outstanding run. With back-to-back straights and flushes in between, it seemed he actually had the luck of the Irish (The regular voice of Daniel Day Lewis) . Ending with a substantial gain in the green and narrowly getting edged out of win total, Matt will have some extra cash for his trip to Morocco, courtesy of his poker success. Here's Looking At You Kid!
Outside of poker, the group mainly discussed football, much to Matt Squared's dismay. With the opening weekend still fresh, there was plenty of Monday morning quarterbacking to be done. Seahawks = Not good (Sorry Eve), Packers = Now Good (Hooray Keith), Cowboys dropped the Micah (Sorry Chris), and Eagles spit their way to victory (Hooray Josh).
We also got a sneak peak of the cover that could have been for Scott's upcoming Twin Peaks Biography. Plus, Martin shared his extensive TV re-watch schedule. Finally, everyone seemed meh about The Paper, suggesting that journalism truly is dead.
The evening concluded with a quick rundown of everyone's most impactful video game. Red Dead Redemption and Ocarina of Time were mentioned, and friend of the table Hudson praised Chrono Trigger on Super Nintendo. In this writer's humble opinion, who wasn't allowed video games until after his parents divorce at sixteen, Ratchet and Clank deserved more recognition. Those space weirdos helped steer the country back on track.
Chip Leader: Matt Vass
Check City Champ: Scott
Best Moment of the Night: Keith attempting a backwards dart throw that came close enough to the board it should warrant Olympic attention.
